Newsletter no. 6, December 2015.

In this newsletter, during these ‘dark days before Christmas’, we would like to look back briefly on the past folklore year.

After a lovely Miss election that gave us a radiant Kirsten MacDonald as

Miss 2015, it became an excellent season with wonderful Thursdays. Just once in a while it was a bit less, but on the whole we could not complain about the weather!

Above all thanks to the efforts of many, we succeeded in attracting tens of thousands of visitors from all corners to Schagen to show off our beautiful regional costume from around 1900.

Young and old, on foot or in carriages, behind the poppesnor (a doll on a string pulled along by children) or as a front walker; everyone did their very best to take part in the parades in a historically accurate way.

Dancers, the children's dance group, the skroifgroepen (West Frisian writers' groups), the information stall, the tower guards and the many, many other volunteers in the afternoon programme made it ten wonderful Thursdays.

The businesses of Schagen also showed their best side by sponsoring us in euros or ‘in kind’.

Thanks in part to their generosity, as well as some generous extra donations, we can also look back on a good year financially.

Many thanks, and please do it again next year!

The accident during the ring tilting will stay with us for a long time.

The spontaneous help given by bystanders, staff of the cafés and restaurants, first aiders and the professional emergency services of the police, ambulances and fire brigade made a deep impression.

The many messages of support in the form of letters, cards, social media and phone calls, not only from Schagen but from all over our country and even from Germany, were a great encouragement to us.

Fortunately, the injured are on the whole doing well again.

In this Christmas newsletter we would once again like to thank everyone warmly for the help and sympathy shown!

And furthermore we wish you all a wonderful Christmas, a pleasant New Year's Eve and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2016!
