Visitor information

Everything for your visit to the West Frisian market: when, where and how to get there.

Optocht in klederdracht door het centrum van Schagen

When and where

The West Frisian markets take place every Thursday in July and August, from about 8:30 am to 3 pm, in the centre of Schagen: on the Markt around the church and in the Nieuwstraat. The parade leaves at 10:45 from the Nieuwe Laagzijde, a few minutes’ walk from the station. Admission is free.

Getting there

If you can, come on foot, by bike or by train: Schagen station is a few minutes’ walk from the Markt. Coming by car? Park in one of the car parks around the centre. Parking is free.

At the market

  • Get the day’s programme at the information stand on the Markt, where you can also have your photo taken in costume.
  • Toilets are available at the cafés and restaurants around the Markt.
  • Climb the church tower on the Markt to see the parade from above (small fee).

Animals

On the animal day and during the parade you get close to horses and other animals. Wash your hands after touching animals. Contact with animals carries a small risk of infection, especially for pregnant women, young children and people with reduced immunity.
