The parade
Every Thursday at 10:45 hundreds of West Frisians in regional dress ride and walk through the centre of Schagen.
The parade leaves at about 10:45 from the Nieuwe Laagzijde, a few minutes’ walk from the station. The farmers’ band De Uienhoop leads the way, followed by farm wagons, gigs and landaus drawn by horses, and hundreds of participants in original West Frisian dress.
The route
Nieuwe Laagzijde, Gedempte Gracht, Markt, Noord, along the Rapenpad, Nieuwstraat, Rensgars, Herenstraat and Torenstraat.
Behind the scenes
Before every Thursday the wagons are polished and repaired where needed. The maintenance team works on them all year, so that every carriage is safe and ready at the start of July.
