We're off!
The first West Frisian Thursday was also the first summery day in the Netherlands.
We enjoyed a magnificent parade with lots of participants, both on carriages and on foot.
The old crafts and the collectors' market also attracted a great deal of interest, and in the afternoon the well-filled terraces were entertained by the shanty choir Het Scheepstuygh.
Opening meal
More than 130 guests enjoyed the traditional West Frisian meal.
Four courses, from ‘ien bord’ (one plate), with ‘ien lepel’ (one spoon).
Once again there were a number of speakers, including Mayor Westerink, who stressed that West Frisian folklore will most certainly live on in the new municipality of Schagen.
Several sponsors made a generous contribution:
A new CD by the Uienhoop, presented by Joop Schilder on behalf of the service club “de Heeren van Scaghen”. The production costs were paid by this club, so for every CD we sell, €10 goes into the kitty! If we sell them all, that means proceeds of €5000!!!
Ten walkie-talkies were handed over by Jetze Kempenaar, interim director of the Rabobank Schagen Wieringerland.
The walkie-talkies are used by our traffic controllers and the people walking ahead of the parade to ensure the safety of participants and the public.
Thanks to this gift we no longer need to buy walkie-talkies ourselves (cost approx. €4000), nor do we have to hire them any more!
Finally, Willem van der Voort and Annette Tesselaar presented a cheque on behalf of De Westfriese Kroniek for no less than €12,500!
The more advertisers and the more people subscribe to this wonderful magazine, the more money this fine initiative raises for the Foundation.
Once again, our heartfelt thanks to all these generous donors!!!
Open-air guest day: 2 August
Tickets for this day at €12.50 are on sale on the West Frisian Thursdays at our Infostal (information stall) on the Markt.
