STICHTING BEVORDERING WESTFRIESE FOLKLORE IN SCHAGEN (Foundation for the Promotion of West Frisian Folklore)
NEWSLETTER NUMBER 3.
June 2016
Just under three weeks to go, and on Thursday 30 June the West Frisian Thursdays start again.
In this Newsletter, once again the necessary information and important dates.
OWN RISK
Just a reminder: you take part in the West Frisian Thursdays at your own expense and risk. Detailed information about liability and the like was given in the April Newsletter this year. You can still read it on our website.
ANNUAL MEETING
It was a lively annual meeting on Monday 6 June.
We said goodbye to Marja Hogenes (costume committee), Conny Pronk (coachman on various turnouts for many years) and Arnold v.d. Wardt (accordionist of De Uienhoop). Conny Praat succeeds Marja on the costume committee. Arie Groen was re-elected as secretary for the next four years. Jos van Leeuwen introduced his successor as ‘presenter’: Anneke Molenaar. From the 2017 season she will be the ‘speaking face’ of the folklore. Jos’s task is being split: Jan Benit has agreed to act as programme manager and in that role to take care of the organisational side of the programme. Jan joins the board.
Finally, Rob Hogenes confirmed the report in the Schager Courant that 2016 will be his last season as chairman.
Nothing can be announced yet about his successor.

DIABOLOS WANTED!!!!!
For the ‘children’s day’, Barbara Anders is still looking for DIABOLOS in various sizes. Preferably complete with sticks and string and, of course, ideally free of charge. More information and/or offers: barbara@decreateur.nl or barbarapunt@icloud.com
COFFEE VOUCHER
In consultation with the SES we have changed the text on the coffee voucher from consumption voucher to DISCOUNT VOUCHER. Participating cafés and restaurants may therefore always ask for an additional payment for more expensive drinks. Some will do so, others perhaps not. The voucher is thus worth up to €1.50 and will again be handed out by Arie Groen on the Laan at the end of the parade.
INSURANCE
In our April Newsletter we informed you in detail about the own risk of taking part in the parade and about all kinds of insurance.
We have received no further questions about this, so we assume that everything was clear enough.
We wish you pleasant and safe Thursdays with lovely weather!
NEW!!!
To promote ‘tower climbing’ (as it is a source of income for us), Jan Benit has put a new activity on the programme.
Directly after the performance of the Westfriese Dansgroep, members of the Skroifgroep will recite a “tower rhyme” on the Markt.
Not from the stage, but simply in the street.
FINALLY…
We wish you all a great deal of fun in the new folklore season.
In week 25 (just before the start of the season) you will receive one more Newsletter with safety tips and advice.
If you know people who are folklore-minded but are not yet subscribed to this Newsletter, please refer them to www.westfriesefolklore.nl
They can sign up for the Newsletters via this site.
On behalf of the board,
Rob Hogenes, chairman.
