STICHTING BEVORDERING WESTFRIESE FOLKLORE IN SCHAGEN (FOUNDATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF WEST FRISIAN FOLKLORE).

NEWSLETTER 4 – July 2015

We are already almost halfway through the season and have four wonderful Thursdays behind us. Fine weather, lots of visitors, varied markets and, fortunately, all of this without mishaps.

Climbing the tower is also enjoying growing interest!

In this newsletter, once again some useful information for the coming weeks.

Guest Day 6 August

On 6 August the traditional West Frisian open-air meal takes place.

Everyone in West Frisian costume is welcome. Tickets are on sale for €12.50 at our information stall on the Markt up to and including Thursday 30 July.

If you are not coming to the Markt before 6 August, you can also transfer €12.50 or a multiple of it before 29 July to the Stichting bevordering Westfriese folklore in Schagen: NL17RABO 0169 2826 94, stating “gastdag” + the number of tickets.

The tickets will then be ready for you at our information stall on 6 August.

It will once again be a tasty meal with musical accompaniment!

Tickets for the closing day

3 September is already the last West Frisian Thursday of this year.

On this day Bakkerij Slijkerman is offering a fully catered bread meal to everyone who contributes in any way to the parade and everything around it. We do need to know how many of us there will be, so please reserve a place (free of charge!).

You can do this by collecting tickets at our information stall on the Markt (until 27.08 at the latest). Maximum 2 per person.

Return dates for costumes

Make a note in your diary: borrowed costumes can be returned on:

Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September from 19:00 to 21:00 in the ‘folklore tower’ of the carriage museum in the Muziektuin.

Return date for prams

On Tuesday evening 8 September, from 19:00 to 21:00, also in the ‘folklore tower’.

Safety

For the parade to run smoothly and safely, we ask all ‘walkers’ to keep up with the parade so that no ‘gaps’ appear. So don't stop to pose for the many photographers, but stay close together.

At the end of the parade on the Laan, after the fruit stall, turn right immediately to leave plenty of room for the carriages.

A little further on, on the ‘Stille Laan’, Arie Groen will be ready to hand you your coffee voucher.

Take care when opening your umbrella in the rain. Horses can be badly startled by it, with all the unpleasant consequences that entails.

Refreshment vouchers

As you will have noticed, from this season the refreshment vouchers are handed out at the end of the parade, on the “Stille Laan”.

Arie Groen and Max Hopmans will be waiting there to hand you your coffee voucher.

So NO LONGER on the Nieuwe Laagzijde, at the start of the parade.
