Ten summer Thursdays in Schagen, just like around 1900

Jan Willem Bosch has died

Jan Willem Bosch has died

A few weeks ago we received the news that Jan Willem Bosch had turned out to be seriously ill.
On 21 December he died of complications following emergency surgery.
Jan Willem was the partner of Hans Verberne.
Together they meant a great deal to ‘the folklore’.
For years they faithfully came from Enkhuizen every West Frisian Thursday to take part in our parade.
Sometimes seated in a carriage, but often on foot too, and an example of how it should be done.
Beautifully and authentically dressed in our West Frisian regional costume.
For several years Jan Willem and Hans also organised the annual ‘Dag van de klederdracht’ (Day of Traditional Costume).
Every year a huge task to bring groups from all corners of our country to Schagen and make this day a highlight.
From the invitations, the administration, the reception in ‘De Bron’ and joining our parade, to the closing lunch at Igesz: they sorted it out together every single time.
Far too soon this royal couple has been torn apart by a merciless illness.
Jan Willem was only 56 years old.
We wish Hans and the rest of the family much strength in bearing this loss.

Rob Hogenes, chairman.
