Never complaining, never asking
He reached the age of 84. Sounds old. But in spirit he was a young lad.

You could always have a good conversation with him. Short, please, because he did not like idle chatter.

He was helpful, and expected nothing in return.
He was often there, but you did not notice him.

Preferably invisible.
Gosh Jan, you are no longer here.

Haven't spoken to you for a while, by the way. Yes, I know, Jan, it is too late now.
Jan Ligthart has died.

Last Sunday.
A man of few words.

With a great interest in others.
A man of the folklore.

A family man.
Not quite the fittest for a while, let's put it that way.

Proud of his boys. Because he was. Crazy about his family. Always curious, always
interested. Proud.

The man of the petrol pump on the Loet.
Crazy about Wies.

Wies, he could not have wished for anyone better. And vice versa.
That is what many will remember most: Jan and Wies, together at the pump.
